The history of the garage door industry dates back to the early 20th century. The early stage (early 1900s through the 1950s) focused primarily on meeting basic needs for vehicle parking and protection; doors were predominantly manually operated and constructed mainly from wood or simple metal structures. The Martin brand was established in 1936.
During the development stage (1950s through the 1990s), up-and-over and sectional overhead garage doors emerged. The range of materials expanded significantly, and electric opening mechanisms began to appear.
The mature stage (1990s through the early 2000s) saw the commencement of domestic research, development, and production of remote-controlled garage door products in China. In 1997, China's first production line for garage door openers was established and put into operation at Xuji.
The intelligent stage (early 2000s to the present) has seen garage doors evolve toward smart remote control, automatic sensing, enhanced security, mobile app integration, and seamless integration with smart home systems, while environmental protection and energy efficiency have emerged as key trends.
